St Ives Home Care

St Ives Home Care was established in 1995 and has grown to become one of Australia’s leading and most trusted providers of personalised in-home care and support.

From securing our first government community care packages in 1997, to offering the very first Consumer Directed Care home care packages under the 2011 trial, St Ives Home Care is proud to now be one of Australia’s largest providers of home care packages – delivering a diverse range of in-home care and support services across the country.

Each year, we deliver thousands of hours of care to older Australians, travelling over 2 million kilometres across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia.

More than care

St Ives Home Care believes that people are at the centre of everything that we do – our clients, their families and our team.

We appreciate that happiness and good health means different things to different people. From the very first contact with us, we strive to best understand the unique health and lifestyle picture of every individual. For this reason we provide more than care. Often, we are a hand to hold, an ear to listen, a friend, an advocate, a confidant; helping individuals and families to achieve their goals.

We work together to champion, where we can, the rights and voices of older Australians, sharing the important stories from those who built the places and communities we, as Australians, enjoy today.

Cultural and social diversity

Staff also complete ongoing training relating to cultural and social diversity in aged care to assist in understanding and supporting both clients and staff with particular needs.

St Ives Home Care provides inclusive, flexible and responsive services to support people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and those from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds; as well as care leavers, those living in rural or remote areas, homeless people or those at risk of becoming homeless, and people who are experiencing financial or social hardships.

In addition, we have specific services to cater for those who come from non-English speaking backgrounds. Staff have access to a number of resources to support client care including cue cards in various languages to assist with daily care and service needs.

St Ives Home Care also employs a diversity and wellness officer to make sure staff are aware of the different issues facing our culturally and socially diverse clients through recognising training needs, building internal awareness and sharing resources.

LGBTI rainbow pin

St Ives Home Care is proud to also have implemented specialist programs such as our Rainbow Pin program to ensure we can deliver care and services based on individual goals and choices. Our team has been working with organisations such as WA-based GRAI (GLBTI Rights in Ageing Incorporated) to implement specialist training for St Ives Home Care staff to enable them to better understand the daily challenges faced within this community.

During induction, new staff learn about the differing needs and quality of life issues faced by people of diverse sexualities and gender identities as they age. Existing staff have access to diversity learning modules and other resources.

Staff who participate in the training earn a rainbow pin which they can then wear.
